Twenty-seven years ago, we started down the pastoral ministry road. Rhonda and I were uncertain how it would turn out with no experience in ministry, neither one of us the child of a minister. Now we make another huge transition. Again this time, we are uncertain. Neither of us were raised on the mission field or have any relatives who were missionaries. Again the Lord asks us to trust him and walk in faith.

In future years, I probably will do little pastoral work, but much teaching and training those preparing for ministry in India.

As some of you have sensed, I don’t do well with good-byes. The last two weeks have been an emotional roller coaster. No seminary offers courses on closure. It was not easy ten years ago with our first church. It is not easy now.

Over the years as you are with people in tender moments such as baptisms, professions of faith, funerals and weddings, you grow close to people like you do your very own family.

You have been generous to us. We deeply appreciate that. You have trusting of us. We deeply appreciate that. You have invited us into your lives. We deeply appreciate that.

Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, I plan to clean out my office. Monday afternoon we will drive to Liberty, Indiana, where we will be with family for a week. We also will do some house shopping and meet with mission executives of OMS International. Next Sunday we will worship with our son and his wife and family. On Sunday evening and Monday, we will be at the Friends of Hope banquet and directors meeting in Anderson, Indiana.

By mid April, our house will be listed. For the remainder of the months, we have big travel plans speaking to congregations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Cleveland, Toledo, Danville, KY, Kingsport, TN, and Sulphur Springs, IN.

Rhonda’s back is not better. She most likely will have to have major surgery. Hopefully this can be done soon so she can use the summer months to recuperate. This has been so disappointing and trying for Rhonda. She has been an inspiration to me and to many others. We both feel somehow God is using this to prepare us for our time in India.

The Lord has always called us both, not just one. We can only do what the Lord gives us health to do. Pray for Rhonda please. She is truly God’s gift to me. I could not do what I do without her support and encouragement.

It has been said that Christians should never say “Goodbye” but “See you later”. We look forward to coming back to church when we are in the area before we move. After we move we look forward to occasional visits to Round Lake.

If you can come to Liberty, Indiana, this summer and visit us, please do. Our door is always open. It is about a 6 hour drive to the southeastern corner of Indiana.

In future years, I hope several of you can come on a short-term mission trip to India, visit us, and possibly do some mission work of some kind.

The Apostle Paul ends his first letter to the Corinthians by writing, “Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58).

So many things we do in life are in vain. We think they are important at the time but are they really? Someone once said, “Major on the majors and not on the minors.” Let me suggest that the work of the Lord is a “major”. It is work, yes, but it is work that you will not regret when you are older.

Several in this church know this. You know the fruit of labours in the Lord. You use your time, your energy, your financial resources for something greater than yourself. That something greater is the Church of Jesus Christ. This is precious. It builds families and communities. It makes societies more kind, compassionate, and gentle. It is the hope of our chaotic world.

Pray for your leaders and honor them as such. Love and serve one another patiently overlooking the faults, the quirks, the disobedient moments.

May you continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. We love you.

The calendar in the Chimes each month only contains the events of our church life. It does not list all the groups using the church facility on different dates. HOLY WEEK SERVICES

What a special time for our church during Holy week.  Maundy Thursday service observed the Last Supper of Christ and his disciples.  Communion was offered to those who attended, along with song and scripture readings.  Good Friday’s service was cancelled due to a spring snow storm.  We had quite a turnout for the annual Easter Breakfast, many thanks to those who helped with setting up, decorating, cooking, and to all who came and enjoyed the fellowship.  Our Easter Sunday Service was also well attended, and we were all again reminded that HE IS RISEN…INDEED!!  Let us remember daily that we serve a Risen Lord.

   “In the Office”

Monday, March 24th, was a day for a new start for me, my family, and church family.  I officially began working in the church office, having a week to “shadow” Pastor Curry.  I will be here daily, performing office functions, scheduling property usage, and attending community meetings among other things.  Please be patient with me as I get my bearings here.  Don’t hesitate to call or stop in if you have any questions.  The new email address will be roundlakecc@yahoo.com .  Thanks to all of you for allowing me to serve in the capacity, this is a prayer answered.

 LYDIA CIRCLE RUMMAGE SALE NOTES

Well, once again Rummage Sale time is here. The Spring Sale schedule is as follows:

Set-up Sunday and luncheon for the workers is April 6th.

Sale dates are April 10th and 11th from 9am-6pm.  Saturday the 12th from 9am-noon.

You will notice a “new look” at this Spring Sale.  While we will continue to have the better quality items in Lydia’s Boutique and in our new narthex, all items in Fellowship hall will be a part of a BAG-SALE.  This means you can fill a brown paper bag with any sale items found in Fellowship Hall for $8.00 on Thursday, $4.00 on Friday, and $2.00 on Saturday.  Larger items that won’t fit into a bag will be appropriately priced.

PLEASE NOTE:  WE HAVE ELIMINATED THE WEDNESDAY “EARLY BIRD SALE”

Since we only have 3 days to prepare for a Spring Sale, we have gone to the bag sale idea in order to reduce the work load on our volunteers.  With this in mind, we decided to eliminate the Wednesday sale date.

Please hold all donations until Sunday April 6th, cut off for donations is Tuesday April 8th 7pm.

We have a sign up sheet available for people willing to help with set-up, work the sale dates, and provide food for the lunch on Sunday.

Please save your brown paper bags so we do not have to purchase them.

Thanks again for your help and support for our sales each year.
