FATHERS DAY

Don’t forget Father’s Day is June 15th.  Take time to honor your Dad.

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

SUNDAY SCHOOL NOTES

Promotion Sunday took place this year on June 1st.  This year has been one that I feel all the teachers can say was truly amazing.  Among our church body are many children that we have all had the pleasure of serving every Sunday morning.  These kids have shown us time and time again that there is not a child “too young” for Sunday School.  We taught kids ranging in age from 2 to 16.  They have supported each other week after week not only in the lesson work and activities, but most noticeably in the area of prayer.  These kids have truly learned the power of prayer and praying for each other and their families. Our Jr & Sr High classes each had regular attendance this year, which is an answered prayer. I would like to personally thank each of the teachers who gave of their time and talent each week to work with these kids:

Karen Eggert, Linda Ellinger, Cindy Fazekas Cindy Johnson

Mike Johnson, Donna Kramer, Joe Martin, Pastor Curry

Please continue to be in prayer for next year’s program.  I welcome and comments from the children, parents, or interested parties about the Sunday School program.  Call or send me all your thoughts, constructive comments, suggestions, and needs.  All comments will be kept confidential if warranted.  You can call me at 847-245-7260 or email at pillarstj@yahoo.com.

UPDATE FROM THE CURRYS

Wow have we ever had a challenging time here at the Missionary Medical Intensive in the heart of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina! It has been “intensive” to say the least. The days are long with classes and homework. Come evening our brains feel like mush. We have covered such things as examinations, giving injections, suturing cuts, catherizations, diagnosing, treatment which includes figuring by hand the correct dosage using milligrams, milliliters and kilograms.

Learning how to use a medical manual of tropical diseases, Rhonda and I have done about 30 case studies. An example would be the correct diagnoses and treatment for a village of 13,000 people with approximately 5,000 being under the age of 10 with most of them having malaria. What type of malaria - non-falciparum or falciparum needs to be determined as well as the type of medicine that is affordable and available for that specific area and how much should be ordered.

Most of the 18 people here in the training are missionaries headed for such places as the Amazon jungles to the heart of the African Congo to small islands in Papua New Guinea. The religious affiliations range from Independent Baptist to Presbyterian to Evangelical Free to Seventh Day Adventist. Jesus is lifted up so high that all the individual, theological distinctive are secondary. We are the oldest people with most of the rest being the age of our children. It is so neat to see how God is raising up young, brave, passionate missionaries.

Friday we leave and go to Kingsport, TN where we will be speak at two churches Sunday. Pastor Kerry and Robin Doyal (former Round Lake clergy couple) will be our host. Then on to Round Lake to move from our home.

Pray for our safe travel and pray for the sale of our home. Moving date is Saturday, June 7th. We will temporarily be living with my aunt, Thelma White, in Richmond, IN.

INTRODUCING SAM BUSTER

I, Sam Buster, would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your interim pastor at The Community Church of Round Lake.  I was born, the fourth of 5 children to a young, poor but adventurous, farmer and his faithful wife, in Merced, California.  At the age of 5 my family sailed as immigrants to Australia seeking a brighter hope than the restrictive and expensive options afforded my parents in the US.

They bought a sheep station in the “Outback” of Australia, west of Bourke, NSW.  I enjoyed a kid’s dream life, chasing sheep on motor bikes and riding horses on our 16,000 acre farm.  All my siblings and parents still live there to this day.

God grabbed my heart at the age of 14 and a school teacher discipled me in my sophomore through senior years in high school.  I thought I might be called to be a pastor, so I came back to the US and attended Wheaton College and received a BA in Biblical Studies.  While there I met and married my lovely American wife Michelle, Michelle grew up in Virginia and graduated from Wheaton with a BA in Christian Education.  She has used this as a lay teacher in the church all the years we have been married.  Before I graduated we had our first two children, Joanna and Jeffrey.

My new family and I moved back to Australia (for a break) and I fell in love with farming cotton on our farm.  I discovered I had the same ‘pioneering spirit’ passed down from Dad, and he and I (later joined by my siblings) developed our sheep station into a large cotton farm.

Still feeling maybe called to ministry, but loving business and farming so much, I brought my family to TEDS (where I am currently attending) in 1987 to begin a Master of Divinity program.  While there we had our third child, Julie.  I loved studying but felt really called to farming and business.  I left and went back to continue the growth of our business, fully expecting that this was my calling.

We achieved all our goals by 1995 so in a family meeting with all my siblings and parents we sought a new vision.  During this process Michelle and I became convinced that God was calling us elsewhere but unsure to what.  So I started the process of handing over my leadership role to my other brothers, and a year later moved to Kalispell Montana in December1996 with our four children,

Joanna (now 26), Jeffrey (now 25), Julie (now 21) and James (now 18).

Montana was both a slice of heaven and my personal exile experience in the wilderness.  God did a lot of work in our lives during the ten years we were there.  While the lifestyle was fantastic, God chose to strip away from me everything I had felt I had accomplished.  He eventually got me to a point where I had to confess that I had no confidence in my own ability.  Now He was ready to use me (I came to discover).  In the spring of 2006 God called us to full-time ministry.  God performed a series of miracles to make this happen.  We sold up everything and moved to our little apartment in Vernon Hills.  I have now completed two of my three years toward a Master of Divinity degree.  Michelle has been supporting the family with her first job since we were married at Kraft Foods and is now working in Human Resources.

My passion is to preach, teach and disciple people in the Word to bring them ever closer to a faithful walk in Christ.  I am so appreciative of having the opportunity to be your interim-pastor as I fulfill my passion to follow God’s calling into ministry.    I look forward to getting to know each one of you and pray that together God will grow us up “in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”  II Peter 3:18.

In Christ

Sam Buster
